MARTINBOROUGH
COUNTY AFFAIRS BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Featherston County Council was held this morning. There were present Mr A. B. Martin (chairman) and Councillors R. Smith, W. Cameron, J. C. Bidwill, R. W. Matthews, G. Gillies, J. A. McLeod and L. J. Thompson. An apology for absence was received from Councillor Q. Donald. The Department of Lands wrote refusing to take an area of land for water supply purposes at Lake Ferry, Messrs Card and Wilson intimated that a drain on Mr Mclvor’s property, Featherston, required cleaning. The council replied that the drain was not included in the council’s maintenance work and private owners must' clean their own drains. The Martinborough Borough Council applied for the usual library grant and also for a new grant towards the maintenance of the headworks. Both requests were agreed to. Accounts totalling £3442 were passed. The ranger reported having impounded a bull and having registered 43 dogs during the month. SILVER WEDDING The occasion of the silver wedding of Mr and Mrs W. E. Arcus was celebrated by a happy gathering of family and friends at “Sedd-el-Bahr” on the afternoon of Saturday, January 30. Toasts were honoured and the wedding cake, which was the present of the bridesmaid, Mrs Gordon Thomson (nee Miss D. McDonald) was cut. The toasts included the bride’s mother (responded to by Mr Gordon Thomson) and the bridegroom’s father. Mi- F. P. Ward acted as toastmaster. Afternoon tea was provided. The guests included Mr and Mrs A. Sharp, Mr and Mrs F. P. Ward. Mr and Mrs C. R. Holmes, Mr and Mrs G. Thomson, Mr and Mrs R. Nicol, Mr T. S. Arcus and Miss Arcus, Mesdames H. Ronalds, Macalister, L. Sievers, L. Speedy, J. G. McDonald, Howie, R. Smith, Junr., W. Smith and J. Moore, Mr R. Sharp, Misses N. and F. Thomson, N. Ronalds and M. Ward.
