OPAKI

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE NINTH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Opaki Women’s Institute was held at the home of Mrs A. Beetham, who presided. The meeting took the form of a social gathering to celebrate the ninth anniversary of the founding of the institute. Miss Wolters, president of the Wairarapa Federation, was a guest. Mrs Thomas sang charmingly and Mrs Jaine gave an amusing recitation. A guessing competition was won by Miss Wolters. A birthday cake, the gift of the president, was a centre of interest. The candles were lighted by the president and extinguished by the youngest visitor. The cake was cut by Mrs Wilton, the oldest member.' The next meeting will be held at Oaklea, the home of Mrs The roll call will be “Questions,” to be answered by Mrs Wilton from her experience of the early days.
