TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD
MEETING IN MASTERTON. APPEAL FOR MAGAZINES. The Masterton Townswomen’s Guild held its first meeting for the year yesterday, Mrs Copp presiding. One minute’s silence was observed out of respect to the memory of the soldiers who had made the supreme sacrifice and also of a very esteemed guild member, Mrs Kiddie. The president’s motto vzas “Kindness like grain increases by growing.” Mrs Judd appealed to members for small magazines to be packed in the soldiers’ parcels and also to guild members to help with the making of hussifs when the need arose. The Upper Plain Institute sent in a number of splints to be forwarded to Wellington. Nominations for the committee and the office of president are to be in the hands of the secretary not later than February 20. Mrs Whittaker gave the golden thread, entitled “Friendly Folk.” Two items by the Singing ' Circle were much appreciated. Mrs Learmonth, representative of the American Red Cross Society, described the workings of the 'newlyformed club which is shortly to be opened in Masterton.
