Boy Drowned.
A 14-year-old boy, Selwyn Frederick Brambley, son of Mr Frederick Brambley, St. Helier’s, Auckland, was drowned while fishing on the beach. The boy was alone at the time, and.no one noticed he had got into difficulties. His spear was found floating on the water, and a search party found the body in about 9 feet of water. Swimming Events. The following events will be decided at the next meeting of the Masterton Swimming Club:—Junior girls: 25 yards freestyle, 50 yards freestyle. Junior boys: 25 yards freestyle, 50 yards freestyle. Intermediate girls: 50 yards freestyle, 25 yards breaststroke. Intermediate boys: 50 yards freestyle, 100 yards freestyle. Ladies: 50 yards freestyle. Men: 50 yards freestyle, 25 yards dash, 100 yards relay race. There will also be dives for all grades. Odd Fellows’ Lodge Dance. The Masonic Hall was filled on Saturday evening, when a dance was held by the Loyal Masterton Odd Fellows’ Lodge. Mr Jack Barnes’s orchestra supplied excellent music, and extras contributed by Miss Irvine were much appreciated. A Monte Carlo waltz competition was won by Miss Greenwood and Mr Reeves. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Bro. B. Seddon. Sisters Brader and Prout were responsible for the splendid supper provided, and special thanks are due to those who assisted in this connection to make the dance the success it was. It was announced that the next dance would be held on Saturday, February 20.
