BABY FARMING
SCANDAL TO BE ENDED' IN BRITAIN! ACTION BY HOME SECRETARY. CONTROL OF ADOPTION. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.5 a.m.) LONDON, February 2. The Home Secretary (Mr H. Morrison) has decided to end Britain’s baby farming scandal. He announced that-, he will enforce the Adoption of Children Regulation. Under this regulation, mothers who try to dispose of babies by illegal adoption will be liable to a fine of £2OO or six months in gaol, or both. Fifteen welfare societies recently complained to Mr Morrison that in the past three years hundreds of babies had been sold through a black market to the highest bidder, mostly to women shirking national service. The regulation to be enforced provides that only societies with a licence from a local authority can negotiate adoptions. Only British subjects will be allowed to adopt children and no payment by foster parents will be allowed.
