4 TWO FIRES SERIOUS LOSS ON FARM. (“Times-Age” Special.) At 3.50 p.m. yesterday the Fire Brigade received a call to a fire on Mrs A. Murphy’s property at Murphy’s Line, where the cowsheds, motor garage, and another shed containing about one thousand bales of hay, were destroyed. Although the brigade was smartly on the scene, the lack of water seriously hindered fire fighting operations. Another alarm was sounded at 6.40 o’clock this morning, the cause being an outbreak of fire in the wash-house at the residence of Mrs G. Symons, Daniell Street ,but little damage was done. Personal Items. Mrs McNab, Paekakariki. is the guest of Miss M. Nix, Tauherenikau. Mrs G. Wilton, Fox Street, is visiting Wellington. Mrs Handley, Paeroa, is the guest of Mr and Mrs G. Lowell, Hayward Street. Mrs Gold, of Palmerston North, is the guest of Mr and Mrs J. Holmes, Birdwood Street. Mr H. G. Lovegrove, of the Telephone Exchange, who left this morning for Whangarei, was farewelled by a number of members of the Featherston Golf. Club last evening. Mr J. W. Card, president, referred to the good work carried out by Mr Lovegrove in the interests of the club as a committeeman and treasurer. Mr Card presented Mr Lovegrove with an appropriate token of the club’s appreciation, and extended to Mr and Mrs Lovegrove good wishes for their future. Mr Lovegrove suitably replied. The following are the Featherston candidates who passed the Public Service entrance examination held in November: —P. M. Halpin, D. A. Johnston, P. M. Peene,' S. F. Rasmussen. COSY THEATRE “JOAN OF PARIS.” Tonight’s programme at the Cosy Theatre will be headed by the brilliant war drama, “Joan of Paris,” in which Michele Morgan and Paul Henreid have the leading roles. It is a picture which should not be missed by patrons who appreciate only the best in pictures,
