APPEAL BOARD

SERVICE WITH ARMED FORCES MASTERTON SITTING LARGE NUMBER OF CASES TO BE DEALT WITH. A number of cases are set down for review by the No. 2 Armed Forces Appeal Board (Napier) which commenced a sitting in Masterton today. The sitting will last nearly a week. There were present: Messrs. H. B. Lusk (chairman), F. R. Field and W. H. Barry (members of the board), J. C. Corbishley (secretary) and J. S. Wauchop (Crown representative). Lieutenant F. H. Goldfinch, liaison officer between the board and the Army, was also present. In the following cases the name of the person lodging the appeal is given in parentheses: — Adjourned sine die: Harold W. P. Parry, farmer (F. W. Parry); Hugh Campbell, baker (Champion Bakeries, ' Ltd,). Adjourned: Herbert H. Williams, farm labourer (Herbert L. Williams) and Joseph Anders Jensen, farm hand, Carterton (Charles Jensen), to May 1, 1943. Service Postponed: Edward B. Evans, farm manager (Mrs. M. J. Evans). Mr. S. R. Gawith said that Evans was so keen to go into camp that he was selling his cows and only wanted time to carry on fo the present season. x In the case of an appeal lodged by\ Mrs. E. M. Gayfer for D’Arcy Russell \ Gayfer, a hairdresser and tobacconist, \ of Carterton, Mr. Lusk said that it wajj|| quite difficult for the board, as it was a matter of hardship to Mrs. Gayfer. It was to be clearly understood that the reservist should be replaced as soon as possible, although a sine die adjournment would be granted meantime. Jt was quite possible, said Mr. Lusk, that there might be tradesmen among men coming back from overseas.
