WEEKEND BIVOUAC
MOTOR RESERVE TRANSPORT. SHOOT AT PAP AWAL Another successful week-end bivouac was held by No. 13 Company (Wairarapa), Lines of Communication, Reserve Motor Transport, last week-end. The camp was arranged on Mr Lackham Heckler’s property, and the principal training took the form of a rifle shoot at the Papawai Range. The results achieved were considered most satisfactory, taking into consideration that only one previous shoot had been held, and no less than eight personnel scored 100 or over, the best individual scores being:— Dvr. R. Grantham, 118; Sgt. H. A. R. Dunderdale, 116; Dvr. E .R. Gray, 112; Sgt. S. C. J. Allen. 107; Dvr. M. Benton, 104; Dvr. W. H. Thomas, 103; Dvr. K. McKenzie, 103; Dvr. J. O’Brien, 100.
The exercises fired consisted of grouping (5 shots), application (10), snap (5) and rapid (10). The company is very much indebted to Lieutenant Whiteman for taking charge at the range, and to Messrs V. E. Donald, C. Pickering, G. Vennell, T. Oakley and V. Mangham, Senr., for their assistance as “spotters.” A teams’ match was held in conjunction with the shoot, the winning team being Sgt. H. A. R. Dunderdale, Drivers L. Brown, W. H. Thomas and T. Daysh, with a total score of 385; the second team being Sgts. S. C. J. Allen and E. R. McFarlane, Drivers F. H. Palmer and P. A. Evans, total 350; and the third team, Drivers A. E. Wilson, H. A. McCarthy, K. McKenzie and W. Elder, total 336.
Trophies were presented to these teams, and the winning team also received a special trophy, donated by Mr V. E. Donald, whose generous action was very much appreciated. Next month’s bivouac for A. and C. Sections will probably be held at Masterton, when live grenade practice will be carried out. •
The usual weekly officer’s and N.C.O.’s parade will be held on Thursday, January 28, at the A. and P. rooms, at 7 p.m.
