Mrs. Nicholls, who was born in Lyttelton 89 years ago, had a retentive memory and could tell many interesting stories of the adventurous days of early settlement in New Zealand. Mrs. Nicholls, who was a daughter of Mr. Samuel Gundry, of Lyttelton, married her husband at Te Awamutu at the time of the Maori unrest. The surviving members of her family are: Mesdames F. R. Perry (Martinborough), C. G. Monro (Masterton), Miss S. D. Nicholls (Masterton) and Mr. G. Nicholls (Nelson) to whom the sympathy of a wide circle of friends will be extended.
