IMPORTS FROM UNITED STATES. NEW ZEALAND EXPERT GOING TO WASHINGTON. , (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, January 22. "At the request of the New Zealand Supply Mission at Washington the Government has given consideration to the appointment of experts to assist the mission in dealing with technical problems arising out of various aspects of supply,” said the Minister of Supply, Mr Sullivan, “and Mr T. L. Hawkes, Christchurch, will go to Washington in i connection with the securing of agricultural implements by the Government to meet the needs of the farming industry. “The Government will explore- every possible advenue,” said the Minister, “to obtain the maximum quota under the very intricate and exacting American regulations-, which call for close supervision to ensure that no wastage whatever of agricultural implements takes place. “The question of substitution and spare parts makes this aspect of supply increasingly difficult, and it is necessary to have available an expert familiar with our full requirements and the special difficulties which face us in this country.' 1
Mr Hawkes is well known in Christchurch as sales manager for New Zealand of the International Harvestei- Company.
