ON PARADE AT 92
NOTABLE INDIAN VETERAN. One old soldier in India, though he is 92 years of age, puts on his uniform again, travels 30 miles —and goes on parade. Jemador Ismail Khan, with many other Indian officers of the old Madras Army, attended the official opening of the Training Centre of the 3rd Madras Regiment. He became young in heart again when he heard the familiar words of command and the call of the bugle—so young that ho went on to the sports, ate the splendid tea in the Indian Officers’ Mess and wouldn’t have missed any of it for anything. The opening of the centre, which was attended by the Governor of Madras celebrated the reconstruction of the old 3rd Madras Regiment after a lapse of 15 years. The day was the anniversary of the famous victory of Assaye, when the Madras Battalions were the only Indian troops present. A supreme momnet was the hand-ing-over to the “new” regiment ci-the old 3rd Colours.
