CARTERTON

BOWLING CHAMPION RINK GAME. ("Times-Age” Special.) Playing a game in the third round of the Carterion Bowling Club’s championship rink contest, Kilmister, King, Curtis, Harp (s) beat Pankhurst, Steven, Simmonds, Sorensen (s), 22/19. On the 9th end the score was in favour of Harp 14/6, and at the 20th end he led 22/17. Requiring five to tie or six to win, Sorensen scored two on the final end and thus lost by 3 points. Harp’s team has so far been unbeaten, having scored three wins. Meeting of Club. At a meeting of the management committee of the Carterton Bowling Club last evening a letter from the secretary of the Wairarapa Bowling Centre concerning championship games this year was considered. It was decided to inform the centre executive that the Carterton Club was of opinion that the games should be played on a “sudden death” principle and that the singles be decided on March 6, and the pairs and rinks competitions on succeeding Saturdays. Messrs W. Martin and J. L. Harris were elected to fill vacancies on the committee caused by recent resignations. Air F,orce Band. It is probable that the Air Force band will play a programme of music in Carterton in the near future. The Carterton Patriotic Committee will meet on Monday night to consider the matter. Personal Items. Mrs N. R. Armstrong left this morning for Napier where she will spend a holiday. The engagement is announced oi Freda Isabella, daughter of Mrs and the late E. P. Eagle, Carterton, to Leading Aircraftman Melville lan, second son of Mr and Mrs R. W. Banks, Carterton. . Acting upon medical advice, Mr Thos. G. Underhill has entered the Masterton Hospital for treatment. REGENT THEATRE TWO BIG FEATURES. Two big features will be presented at the Regent Theatre tonight—“ One Million 8.C.” and “Washington Melodrama.” The former is a thrilling story of the jungle, with Victor Mature and Carol Landis in the leading roles. “Washington Melodrama” is an exciting mystery drama, featuring Frank Morgan, Ann Rutherford and Kent Taylor.
