EKETAHUNA
SISTER J. PITCAITHLY MENTIONED IN DISPATCHES. (•‘Times-Age’’' Special.) Sister Jean Pitcaithly, of Hastings, who has been mentioned in dispatches, was born at Tawataia, and is a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs R. Pitcaithly, pioneers of Tawataia. Mrs Pitcaithly is now living in Hastings. Personal Items. Nurse Ann Berry, one of the eight nurses at Tobruk, is a daughter of Mrs E. Berry, formerly of Eketahuna. Nurse Berry spent her childhood in Eketahuna, and was educated at the local District High School. Mrs C. Welch, Levin, is the guest of her daughter, Mrs R. Kiddie, Hamua. Mrs Jeffaries, Te Awamutu, is visiting her sister, Mrs M. Herbert, Alfredton Road. Miss Evelyn Stratford, Avondale, is staying with her aunt, Mrs H. Rogers. Mrs Harland, Brooklyn, is the guest of Mrs P. Fauvel, Alfredton Road. Surrounded by their family and many friends, flowers and congratulatory messages from those whom petrol and travel restrictions prevented from coming, Mr and Mrs J. Metcalf, formerly of Eketahuna, recently celebrated their golden wedding with a party in the large studio of their son, Mr T. Metcalf, Wanganui. A wedding cake made by Mrs T. Metcalf, had pride of place oh the table. Mrs Metcalf’s brother, Mr C. H. Marsden, of Marton, who was also present at the wedding which took place at Leeds, England. 50 years ago; Samuel Marsden, the pioneer missionary, was a cousin of Mrs J. Me+calf’s father, so Mi' and Mrs Metcalf did not feel they were coming to a strange country when they arrived in New Zealand thirty years ago. They lived in Eketahuna the whole of that time until the earthquake damaged their home beyond repair a few months ago, when they moved to Wanganui. Their other son, Mr J. Metcalf, is on the staff of the Cambridge Post Office.
