HEAVY RAIN STREETS FLOODED. (“Times-Age” Special.) At 4.45 o’clock yesterday afternoon exceptionally heavy rain commenced to fall and lasted for an hour. The watertables were soon overflowing and portions of the streets were flooded. The rain will benefit pastures and gardens. At noon yesterday the glass registered 80 degrees in the shade. ORDER OF DRUIDS TOTARA LODGE. Totara Lodge No. 3, United Ancient Order of Druids, met last night, Arch. Druid Bro. H. J. Bassett presiding. Two members declared on the sick funds of the lodge, and one member declared off the funds. Sick pay and accounts amounting to £99 18s were passed for payment. The balance sheet for the half-year ended November, was read and adopted. . ... One new benefit member was initiated into the Order and two further proposals accepted. Bro. Oliver Reid, who is on active service in the Middle East, acknowledged with thanks receipt of a Christmas parcel from the lodge. Bro. During the year ended December last the sum of £243 6s lOd was paid in sick pay to members, ond for the same period £370 was paid in death benefits and £145 9s in funeral expenses. x SWIMMING CLUB LAST NIGHT’S RESULTS. Last evening at the Municipal Swimming Baths the Carterton Amateur Swimming Club held its first gathering of the season . Personal Items. Word has been received by Mrs Smith, of Tyne Street, Carterton, that her son, Private “Pat” Smith, is nt and well. _ Pilot Officer Trevor H. Smith, son of Mr Smith, of Matarawa, who was previously reported missing, believed killed, is now officially presumed to be dead. „ , Mr and Mrs W. L. DeLacey, of Remuera, are visiting Carterton, and are the guests of Mr and Mrs J. Lenihan. Private T. R. Irvine, who saw service in Lybia, was among those soldiers who were invalided home recently. He is at present a cot case in the Wellington Hospital. Mr and Mrs P. A. Cole and Mrs Hastie have returned from a holiday spent at Paekiriki, West Coast. The death occurred at.the Masterton Hospital yesterday from blood poisoning of Mr Scott Hayes Young, of Blackball. He was spending a holiday with his aunt, Mrs Fletcher, in Carterton He was the second son of Mrs Violet and the late Mr Frank Young, and was 20 years of age. He leaves a mother ,two brothers and two sisters. The funeral will leave King’s Mortuary Chapel, Broadway, tomorrow, for the Clareville Cemetery, after a service commencing at 3 p.m. REGENT THEATRE “SO ENDS OUR NIGHT.” Tonight’s programme at the Regent Theatre is headed by a stirring drama of romance, “So Ends Our Night,” in which Frederic March and Margaret Sullavan have been given the leading roles.
