MEETING OF MAURICEVILLE COUNCIL SUPPLIES FOR RAGWORT CONTROL. NEW OVERSEER APPOINTED. (“Times-Age” Special.) A special meeting of the Mauriceville County Council was held yesterday morning, the chairman, Mr E. W. Cheetham, presiding, there being also present Councillors A. Forsberg, D. Bennett, J. H. MacDonald, A. Gray and 0. Welch. . , . A resolution was carried in accordance with the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, deciding upon Saturday as the statutory closing day for shops for the year 1943-44, The monthly meeting of the council was also held. The treasurer’s report, which showed a credit balance of £1342 4s 3d was adopted. Accounts amounting to £773 Ils 2d were passed. A letter was received from the Public Works Department regarding the strengthening of various bridges in the county and it was left to the chairman and clerk to arrange for the information to be passed on to the Department. . . „ The Department of Agriculture advised that stocks of sodium chlorate were now available for ragwort control. The appointment of Mr P. L. W. Jamieson as county overseer was confirmed. Appreciation was expressed of the manner in which the retiring overseer, Mr C. Seymour, had carried out his duties over a period of twenty years and the chairman, Mr E. W. Cheetham. conveyed to Mr Seymour the council’s best' wishes in his new venture.
