KILLED OVER GERMANY
PILOT OFFICER M. W. DIXON. POPULAR MASTERTON RESIDENT. Pilot Officer Maxwell Wintringhgm Dixon, who has been posted in an Air Force casualty list as missing, believed killed, was the son of Mr and Mrs M. W .Dixon, of Renall Street, Masterton. Mr and Mrs Dixon have received further advice that their son lost his life over Germany between December 6 and December 7, 1942, but the place of burial has not yet been confirmed. Born in Masterton 23 years ago, Pilot Officer Dixon was educated at the Whatman School, and later at Wairarapa College, where he matriculated. On leaving school he took up a position on the office staff of the Masterton County Council, and subsequently joined the office staff of Messrs Thomas Borthwick and Sons (A’asia), Ltd. Pilot Officer Dixon was an exceedingly popular young man, and took a keen interest in sport. He was a well-known cricketer in Masterton, and played for the Old Boys seniors, and was a splendid batsman, making many big scores. He also took an active interest in soccer, tennis and wegiht-lifting. Pilot Officer Dixon trained in New Zealand and was commissioned in Canada, later leaving for England.
The sympathy of a wide circle of friends will be extended to the parents and family in their sad bereavement.
