SHOCKING TRAGEDY
GIRL SHOT DEAD. WHILE PLAYING AT COWBOYS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WAIROA, This Day. A shocking tragedy occurred on Saturday afternoon at Wairoa. Hine Paraki, aged 12 years, a daughter of Mr and Mrs P. V. O’Neill, was playing with a boy named Smiler at cowboys. It appears that in order to give more effect to the game the boy secured a round of live ammunition. He loaded his gun and on proceeding with the game the gun was exploded. The girl received the full charge in the face, suffering terrible injuries, her head being completely blown off, causing instantaneously death. . The lad was stunned at his act ana attempted to drag the body away for assistance, was was unable to do SO. Hearing the explosion neighbours rushed in and found the body pf the girl. The police were called and the body removed to the morgue. An inquest was opened yesterday and after evidence of identification had been taken was adjourned sine die.
