OF JAPANESE SHIPS TAKEN BY AMERICAN SUBMARINES. at relatively light cost. LONDON, January 8. American submarines are taking a heavy toll of Japanese ships. The number of these ships destroyed is much larger than has been revealed. Out of 150 vessels that have been hit, 70 per cent have been sunk, and the balance sunk or damaged. The cost of this result, according to the Navy Department, Washington, is only five United States submarines, which have so far been reported lost.
