SCIENTIFIC HONOUR

CONFERRED ON PROFESSOR DENHAM HONORARY MEMBERSHIP. OF CHEMICAL INDUSTRY SOCIETY. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.20 a.m.) LONDON, January 5. The Society of Chemical Industry has conferred honorary membership on Professor H. G. Denfiam, Rector of the Canterbury University College. The High Commissioner, Mr W. 'J. Jordan, accepted the scroll of membership on Professor Denham’s behalf. Dr William Cullen, who is the society’s president, said Professor Denham’s career “illustrates to a remarkable degree' the influence which a man of high scientific attainment can exert on the general life of the community when he is sufficiently public-spirited to sacrifice all thought of leisure.” Mr Jordan, replying, thanked the society and said: “New Zealand is grateful to the society for the assistance, encouragement and recognition it gives, those studying chemistry.”

There are only sixteen honorary members of the society in the world. Professor’ Denham was one of five prominent people elected on January 4. \
