REPEATED ATTACKS
ON JAPANESE AERODROMES IN BURMA. EXTENSIVE DAMAGE DONE. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, December 28. An India joint communique states:— “In the past two days the R.A.F. has made three separate attacks on the important Japanese aerodromes at Magwe. On Sunday, Blenheims bombed runways and hit buildings, one of which blew up. The other two raids on Magwe took place yesterday, when Blenheims dropped bombs among enemy aircraft parked in dispersal pens. “The other operation was a low-level attack by Hurricane fighters who successfully shot up buildings and motor transport on the aerodrome. Hurricanes also attacked and severely damaged a medium-sized Japanese -river steamer on the Irrawaddy. From these and other operations 6ne of our fighters is missing. • • • “Patrolling continues on the front of the eastern army. In the Arakan district one of our patrols encountered enemy troops in the vicinity of Rath Daun on Sunday night. After an exchange of fire the enemy broke off the engagement.”
