Reports reaching London state that new defence works are being constructed all along the Belgian coast. The German-controlled newspaper “Le Nouveau Journal,” published in Brussels, openly admits that the possibility of a second front in Europe has upset the calculations of the German General Staff for the campaign in Russia. The newspaper states: “Ever since September it has been evident that at least half the general reserves at Hitler’s and Mussolini’s disposal have not been fighting in Russia.” The paper adds that these were crack divisions, numbering perhaps 100 or more.
