TELLING BLOWS

STRUCK BY ALLIED PLANES IN BURMA DAMAGE DONE TO ENEMY TRANSPORT. ANOTHER RAID ON AKYAB. LONDON, December 23. R.A.F. fighters and bombers are keeping up their telling raids on the Japanese in Burma. Yesterday they attacked and damaged a steamer at Akyab. It was a low level attack, the targets being machine-gunned as well as bombed. Planes also played havoc with enemy land transport and bombed a Japanese- base. These attacks were followed up by another raid on Akyab last night. All the planes returned. British troops in north-west Burma are still sending out patrols but so far have made no contact with the enemy.
