LEVEL CROSSING SMASH

TRAGEDY AT BELL BLOCK MOTOR CAR WRECKED BY TRAIN. THREE PERSONS KILLED. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, December 22. Three persons were killed and three others injured, two fairly seriously, when a motor-car in which they were travelling was struck by a northbound goods train on a level crossing at Paraiti Road, Bell Block, this afternoon. The victims were:— KILLED. Miss Minnie Frances Gardiner, New Plymouth, whose parents live in England. Noeline Milne, aged nine, daughter of Mr and Mrs N. R. Milne, New Plymouth. Rex Milne, aged 6, son of Mr and Mrs N. R. Milne, New Plymouth. INJURED. Mrs Ivy Close Milne, New Plymouth, wife of Mr Noel Robertson Milne,' now in a military camp in New Zealand, and sister of Miss Gardiner; head injuries, condition fairly serious. Lynetie Betty Milne, aged four, daughter of Mr and Mrs»N. R. Milne; head injuries, condition fairly serious. Mr Wilfred Wright, aged about GO, of Rahotu. The train was fairly long and heavy and the car, a large sedan model, driven by Mr Wright, was completely wrecked, being carried some distance and forced through a fence. Miss Gardiner and two of the Milne children were killed outright, and the remaining three occupants of the car were admitted to the New Plymouth Public Hospital.
