OPAKI

ENJOYABLE GATHERING MR AND MRS J. WINGATE HONOURED. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a large, gathering at Cooper’s Barn, Opaki, on Saturday night when the residents of the district held a dance in honour of Mr and Mrs J. G. Wingate, who are shortly leaving the district to take up their residence in Masterton. Music for the dancing was provided by Mr Jack West and proceedings were kept moving with a swing under the direction of' the M’s.C., Messrs J. Lochore and Hector Miller. Mrs Robert Miller was in fine form with her humorous recitations, which met with an appreciative audience. Monte Carlo waltz competitions were won by Miss Hall and Mr C. Harvey and Miss Laing and Mr O. Wyeth. Mr Thomas Rollo, who presided, referred to the splendid work Mr and Mrs Wingate had carried out for the benefit of the district during their residence extending over twenty years, and on behalf of those present handed the guests of honour a gift. Mr Wyeth suitably returned thanks. Supper was served by the ladies of the district.
