GREYTOWN

PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH SUCCESSFUL GARDEN PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) A very successful garden party was held at the residence of Mrs A. Johnson, Main Street, on Saturday afternoon in aid of the Presbyterian Church funds. In spite of the inclement weather the attendance was very large and a most enjoyable time was spent. The amount of £56 was taken and there are still some donations to come in. Thanks to the Ladies’ Guild was expressed by the Rev J. A. E. Preston for their fine effort. The Ladies’ Guild thank the members of the other churches for the valuable help given, and to others who had assisted and gave donations. The hidden gate number competition was won by Mrs S. Skeet. Other competitions were won as follows: — Stepping the chain, Miss Hill; bull board competition, Mr A. Gregor 1; croquet, Mrs J. F. Thompson 1; golf, the Rev H. Bloomfield. The well-laden stalls did good business and were quickly sold out. Afternoon tea was served on the lawn. Mr and Mrs A. Johnson were thanked for having so generously loaned their garden and home for the gathering. Personal Items. Mrs Hendry, of Petone, is a guest of Mrs F. C. Bunny, Jellicoe Street. Mr S. Larkin, of Ohakune, is a visitor to Grey town. Bowling. Playing for the gold bars, F. Dennes ■and R. Thompson defeated the holders, G. Brunton and C. Larsen. T. Connolly, holder of the Dennes gold medal, was hard pressed in a match by F. Harrington, the game ending with the score 18 all. Lamb and Calf Competitions. The Greytown group of the Girls and Boys’ Agricultural Club will hold its annual lamb and calf competitions on Tuesday, commencing at 10 a.m.

‘‘GREAT GUNS” The programme tomorrow night will be headed by the outstanding comedy “Great Guns,” in which Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy are seen at their best.
