HEAVY CROPS OF HAY HARVESTED IN DISTRICT. (“Times-Age” Special.) Very heavy crops of hay are being harvested in the Carterton district. School Committee. The monthly meeting of the Carterton District High School Committee will be held tonight. Rubbish Collection. Residents of the borough are asked by the Borough Council to place their rubbish receptacles on the footpath before 8 o’clock tomorrow morning, when a general clean up of the borough will take place. A Correction. • Mrs Martha Jane Diamond will celebrate her one hundredth birthday on Wednesday, December 2, and not on Thursday, December 3, as stated in error in this column last week.. Games Postponed. Owing to heavy rain setting in prior to commencement of play on Saturday afternoon, the Carterton Bowling Club’s games were postponed. The tennis club also abandoned play. Patriotic Dance. The dance held by the Y.M.C.A. and Carterton Patriotic Committee on Saturday night was well attended, visitors being present from all parts of the district. A most enjoyable time was spent to music provided by the orchestras of Messrs Udy and Frank Poole. Much appreciated extras were played by Messrs Hemi, T. Udy and Gordon Challis. Mr P. L. Beere was an efficient M.C., and the supper arrangements were supervised by members of the Mothers’ League. Bpwling. The draw for the second round of the club competitions is as follows: — Singles, two lives: Barr v. Sorensen; Hart v. Stent; Hughan v. Newbould; Kilmister v. Harp; Riggs v. Colson. One life: Barber v. Adams; Foss v. Beaven; Whyte v. Callender; Daysh v. Martin; Curtis v. McCarty. Pairs, two lives: Barr v. Hart; Hughan v. Underhill; Harp v. Martin; Sorensen v. Kilmister. One life: Edwards v. McCarty; Riggs v. Foster; Harris v. Barber; Whyte v. Tucker. Rinks: Harris v. Sorensen; Hughan v. Hart; Whyte v. Riggs; Barr v. Harp; Tucker v. Stent. In the singles competition Colson beat McCarty, 21/10, and Kilmister beat’Curtis, 20/10. Personal Items. The funeral of the late Mr W. Hadley took place this morning at the, Clareville Cemetery after Requiem Mass had been celebrated at the local Catholic Church. The pall-bearers were: Messrs W. Miller, J. C. Harp, R. Spora, J. M. Nicholls C. Moore and Jas. Gorman, all members of the Foresters’ Lodge, of which deceased had been a very old member. The service at the graveside was conducted by Father Connor. Mrs S. Green, of Levin, and formerly of Carterton, is visiting Carterton, and is staying with her daughter, Mrs Barrett, Belvedere Street.
