FRENCH WEST INDIES

SATISFACTORY AGREEMENT WITH THE UNITED STATES. ENTIRELY INDEPENDENT OF VICHY. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, November 23. Following on the news that French West Africa is making common cause with the Allies, another agreement with the French Colonial, authorities is announced by the United States Secretary of State, Mr Cordell Hull. He said that a satisfactory agreement had been reached with Martinique, as a result of which it was unlikely that it would be necessary for the United States to occupy French West Indian possessions. The agreement was a renewal of the agreement reached with the French High Commissioner at Martinique in 1940, but with important modifications and changes. It was entirely independent of the Vichy Government.
