SIR STAFFORD CRIPPS

WITHDRAWAL FROM WAR ' CABINET ■ CAUSES SOME SURPRISE IN BRITAIN. SUGGESTED EXPLANATIONS (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) LONDON, November 23. The “Daily Mail’s” political correspondent describes Sir Stafford Cripps exclusion from the War Cabinet as astonishing, but adds: “His transfer’ will not surprise many politicians, who know how restless he has become in recent months. The Commoners who are closely acquainted with Sir Stafford Cripps’ activities' have from time to time forecast his resgnation from the Cabinet altogether. Sir Stafford Cripps has never appeared happy as the leader of the Commons, which requires tact and patience as well as a sensitive reaction to the niceties of Parliamentary procedure.” The “Daily Express” says there have been reports recently that Sir Stafford was unable to see eye to eye with fellow members of the War Cabinet on many important political matters. It adds that Mr Morrison’s active brain will be a source of strength in the direction of the war. "The Times” in a leader says: “Sir Stafford Cripps, in joining the War Cabinet, brought a certain assurance to a large body of opinion that in the highest councils there would be ample consideration of forward views in shaping the policy of both war and peace. The withdrawal from the Cabinet of a Minister who is peculiarly indentified in the public mind with planning for post-war reconstruction will increase the public expectations of a War Cabinet decision which is essential if the peace policy is to be ready for launching when the time is ripe.”
