COUNTY AFFAIRS
WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNCIL.
MEETING IN CARTERTON YESTERDAY. ("Times-Age” Special.) Cr. F. Court presided over the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa South County Council held 'at Carterton yesterday. There were also pre* sent Councillors A. E. Reid, D. McGregor, E. W. Allen, L. S. Gallon; A. McGregor and the County Clerk (Mr E. T. Beaven). Apologies for absence were received from Crs. J. K. Strang, R. Rayner and C. A. Cameron. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £6092. It was reported that the receipts since the last meeting had amounted to £786 19s. It was -resolved that the County Overseer (Mr J. A. Wallace) approach settlers with a request that they clear the roads adjoining their property of gorse and broom. Where settlers are not able to find labour to do the work the county will carry it out and charge the cost to the property owner. Mr H. J. McKenzie was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for the excellent work he had carried out in connection with the inspection and restoration of earthquake-damaged chimneys in the county.
