RONGOKOKAKO

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE SEVENTH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED (“Times-Age” Special.) The Rongokokako Women’s Institute celebrated its seventh birthday in the hall on Saturday. The president, Mrs W. F. O’Neil, presided over a very large attendance. Visitors were welcomed from Eketahuna, Newman and Nireaha. Mrs W. Fafeita was presented with a parting gift from the members. Mrs M. Morriss was presented with a gift and shoulder spray in appreciation of the good work which she had 'done for the district. Shoulder sprays were presented to the president and the secretary. Button holes were given to all visitors and also to all the jiuniors who took part in the social gathering. A bouquet was presented to Miss P. Goggin, who organised the musical items and to Miss Ros.s, who played the accompaniments. A report on the half-yearly council meeting of the Bush District Federation was read by Mrs Winter. A collection for soldiers’ parcels was taken and tins of biscuits were Landed in by members. The competitions for the month resulted as follows: —Sponge roll, Mrs Goggin 1, Mrs B. Morriss and Mrs H. Mac Kay 2. Flowers (large!, Mrs H. Mac Kay 1, Mrs J. P. Sigvertsera 2; (small), Mrs J. P. Sigvertsen 1, Mrs S. Malton 2. The social hour opened with a duet rendered by Miss P. Goggin and Mitts P. O’Neil. Other items were: Piano duet by Hetty and Lois Winter; recitation by Ina Davis; song by Miss Joyce ; Edwards; recitation by Miss P. Gog- : gin; pianoforte solo by Miss P. Goggin. The last item was a play presented by the Misses Goggin, O’Neil, Payne, N. and I. Davis, H. and L. Winter. Afternoon tea was served bv the hostesses, Mesdames J. Drysdale and Mrs S. Malton. Mrs O’Neil called on Mrs Albertsen, Eketahuna, to light the candles on .the birthday cake and on Mrs Wilkens (Nireaha) to blow them out. The oldest member, Mrs B. Morriss, was asked to place the knife in the cake and Miss V. Payne, the youngest member, to cut the first slice. They all wished the Institute “Many happy returns of the day.” The singing of one verse of the New Zealand Anthem and of God Save the King brought a most enjoyable gathering to a close.
