PACIFIC DEMANDS

MUST NOT BE NEGLECTED BROADCAST BY AUSTRALIAN MINISTER. THINKS JAPAN MAY ATTACK SIBERIA. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) WASHINGTON, November 13. The Australian Minister in Washington, Judge Dixon, broadcasting, said that the Japanese may regard America’s new commitments in the Mediterranean as an opportunity to + bolder in the Pacific. He warned that “we cannot afford to give her ground for such belief.” He added that two conclusions may be drawn from, the great events of the past fortnight: First, the United Nations have reached a stage of development enabling them to sustain simultaneous large-scale operations against Germans and Japanese; secondly, the United Nations show themselves capable of more complete strategical and tactical co-operation than has ever before proved possible among allies. “Meanwhile, the demands for ships and materials in the Pacific must grow,” he said. “We believe Germany has exerted great pressure upon Japan to attack Siberia in order to relieve Germany on the Russian front. Has this pressure been in vain? Will Germany now seek to induce Japan to alter her strategy in the Pacific in order to increase the strain upon the United Nations?”_____
