CONFERENCE ENDS
ASSOCIATED CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE ELECTION OF OFFICERS. TAXATION & OTHER REMITS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WANGANUI, November 13. After a meeting extending over three days the annual conference of the Associated Chambers of Commerce concluded this afternoon. Officers were elected for the ensuing year as follows; President, Mr N. B Spencer, Auckland; vice-president, Mr A. S. Patterson, Wellington; immediate past president, Captain S. Holm, Wellington; North Island executive, Messrs L. A. Eady, Auckland N. B. Spencer, Auckland, C. S. Jeffs, Wanganui, H. E. Schofield, Matamata; South Island executive, Messrs G. H. Wood, Canterbury, R. V. White, Canterbury, C. E. Begg, Dunedin, R. D. Stewart, Dunedin, J. N. Armour, Invercargill, J. M. Jenkins, Timaru; Wellington executive, Messrs W. H. Hindle, N S. Hunt, R. H. Nimmo, A. S'. Paterson, P. E. Patrick, A. L. Wall, and Captain Holm. . The 1943 conference will be held in Dunedin. Among the remits adopted were the following: "That the amount of taxation relief, taking Social Security and National Security taxes into account, granted to married men with families is 'totally inadequate to cover the average cost of raising and educating each child, and because increased population is one of the vital needs of New Zealand this conference strongly urges the Government to grant further relief to married men with children immediately.” “That this conference requests the Government to appoint immediately to the New Zealand legation in Washington business men qualified to act in essential trade questions between the United States and New Zealand.”
