Lunar Rainbow.

Many Masterton residents last night witnessed an unusual phenomenon in the sky, that of a most' beautiful lunar rainbow.

Park Tennis Opening. The official opening of the Masterton Park Tennis Club’s season will take place on Saturday afternoon, October 24. A cordial invitation to be present is extended to members and intending members.

Petty Thieving in Park. An outbreak of petty thieving in the Masterton Park was reported at last night’s meeting of the Masterton Borough Council. It was stated that plants and bulbs had been uprooted and removed. An attempt had been made to steal a hand-basin, and a kettle had been taken. Ration Book Issue. New ration coupon books are being issued at the Masterton Post Ofl'ice at a brisk rate. On Monday, the first day of issue, close on 1000 were handed out, and yesterday 1500 were dealt with. The books will be on issue until the end of next week. The total number to be handled in that period will be about 12,000. Divorce Case.

Hilma Lovesa McCauley, of Mauriceville, proceeded against her husband, James McCauley, in the Wellington Supreme Court yesterday for divorce on the grounds of desertion. The petition was heard by Justice Johnston who granted a decree nisi to be made absolute after the expiration of three months. Mr R. R. Burridge, of Masterton, appeared for the petitioner.

Collecting of Ergot. Schools in the Wanganui Education Board district collected one-tenth of the total of the ergot collected by schools in the Dominion in the early part of the present year. This fact was mentioned at the Wanganui Education Board meeting yesterday, when it was stated that 84 schools in the Wanganui, district had collected 1711b' of ergot. Heading the list of schools was Rangiotu, near Foxton, which collected 141 b 13oz.
