GREYTOWN
GOLF CLUB LINKS OFFICIALLY CLOSED. (“Times- Age” Special.) The Grey town golf links were ofl'ictally closed at the weekend. The resuits of the competitions were: — Ladies—Putting. Miss M. Wood 1, Mrs Kiernan 2, Mrs Maddison, Senr., 3. Approaching: Mrs Kiernan 1. Mrs S. Thompson 2, Mrs Maddison, Senr. 3. Driving: Mrs S. Thompson 1, Mrs J. Jury 2, Mrs Maddison, Junr. 3. Men.—Putting: G. J. Burps 1, J. Kiernan 2. E. Maddison 3. Approaching: G. Brunton 1, E. Maddison 2, W. Tully 3. Driving: R. Brunton 1, J. Reid 2, T. Gold 3. The president, Mr J. Kiernan, stated that owing to so many members being away on active service the membership had been considerably reduced and the season had resulted in a financial loss. As the links were no longer available this would be the club's last season until the war was over.
St. Luke’s Day. The Rev. C. H. Isaacson occupied the pulpit at St. Luke’s Church, Greytown, on Sunday. At the morning service a special talk was given to the children on St. Luke’s Day. The service in the evening was fully choral and the church was filled. The special offertories for the day were for the church funds. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs P. E. Kenning, Udy Street, Greytown, recently gave a coming of age party for their only son. Vivian, at the home of Mr and Mrs Paul Wilton, Fernridge. Many friends were present and -an enjoyable time was spent. Mr Vivian Kenning was the recipient of many useful gifts. Mr Wilton presented him with a key. Mr Kenning suitably replied. The gathering was brought to a close with the singing of “For he‘s a Jolly Good Fellow.”
Advice has been received from Canada that L.A.C. W. E. Jordon has passed his examinations and has been promoted to, Sgt. Wireless Air Gunner. Signalman M. O’Kane, who recently returned from the Middle East, is at present in the Wellington Hospital. He expects to be transferred to Greytown in the near future. TOWN HALL A BRILLIANT DRAMA. Tonight’s programme will be headed by the brilliant drama, “The Great Man’s Lady,” telling a most hearttouching story in which Joel McCrea, Barbara Stanwyck and Brian Donlevy have the principal roles.
