CARTERTON
GATHERING AT PARKVALE AIRCRAFTMAN HONOURED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Parkvale Hall was the scene of a very happy gathering on Saturday evening when residents entertained Aircraftman H. S. Cadwallader. The time was spent in dancing for which Mr Maurice Edwards supplied the music. Extras were played by Messrs L. Mackintosh, Hemi and Hayes. Mr C. Jensen, Junr., acted as M.C. Supper was provided and presided over by ladies of the district. On behalf of settlers of Parkvale and district, Mr C. Jensen, Senr. presented Aircraftman Cadwallader with an engraved wristlet watch. Mrs D. N. Adams, on behalf of the Parkvale Women’s Institute, asked Aircraftman Cadwallader to accept a parcel of woollen garments. The recipient suitably acknowledged the gifts. The Dalefield Dairy Factory Committee presented Aircraftman Cadwallader with a wallet.
PATRIOTIC DANCE GATHERING LARGELY ATTENDED. There was a large attendance at the State Theatre on Saturday night' at a dance held by the Y.M.C.A. and Carterton Citizens Committee. A most enjoyable time was spent to music supplied by the orchestras of Messrs Tom Udy and F. Pool. Extras were played by Mr Hemi and a soldier. Mr P. L. Beere was M.C. Supper was supervised by members of the Mothers’ League. Patriotic Dance, The Belvedere Patriotic Committee will hold a dance in the Belvedere schoolroom on Friday next. A special effort is to be made to provide an exceptionally enjoyable time for patrons. S.M. Court Cases. Several charges are to be heard before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., at the next sitting of the S.M. Court at Carterton, against persons for having sold milk which, it is alleged, was not up to the standard set by law. Personal Items. Mr A. Broadbent, Carterton, has received a cable message from America announcing the death of his brother, Mr Joseph Broadbent, formerly of Carterton. Deceased, who was 63 years of age, left Carterton many years ago for America.
The death occurred at Pahiatua on Saturday of a former resident of Carterton in the person of Mr William Morrison, at the age of 88 years. Many years ago the late Mr Morrison' was employed on the Carterton section of the railways as a surfaceman and was later transferred to Pahiatua, where he retired on superannuation. He was a prominent member of the Druids’ Lodge and was for some time secretary of Totara Lodge, Carterton. He had been a member of the Carterton lodge for 52 years. His wife predeceased him several years ago. He leaves a grown-up family.
