SOCIAL GATHERING SOLDIERS’ ENTERTAINED. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a large attendance m the’ Memorial Hall on Tuesday evening when Privates Fred Busch and Charlie Todd were entertained at a social gathEl Mr F. Lovegrove presented each of the guests, on behalf of the residents of the district, with a suitable gift, and expressed the hope that they would safely return to New Zealand. Both recipients suitably responded. Dancing, interspersed with vocal and musical items, were indulged in. . A party of Maori girls contributed action songs and poi dances. Mr R. McDon-. aid, who possessed a splendid tenor voice, rendered two songs and Messrs Haldone and Te Maari sang a duet. Mr S. Mclntosh sang a duet. Mr S. McIntosh was M.C. and Messrs Matenga and Makitanara played the dance music. The Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss Doreen O’Brien and Mr B. Atkinson. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs S. Hall, Kumenga, have received official advice that their son Gordon, who was reported missing, is now a prisoner of war. Mrs J. Mundy has returned from a visit to relatives in Taranaki. Mi’ B. H. McMaster, who underwent treatment in a private hospital, has returned home. Mr Cap. Carter, who underwent an operation recently, is making satisfactory progress towards recovery. Mrs G. Busch is staying with her son, Mr W. Busch, Otaraia. Docking Percentage. Docking operations are in full swing in this district. In most cases the percentage is satisfactory.
