Frosts in Masterton.
A frost of 2.5 degrees was registered in Masterton yesterday morning, and one of 8.8 degrees this morning. A Correction. Mrs Clayworth, Alfredton, writes stating that the item which appeared in last Wednesday’s Alfredton notes to the effect that Mrs Clayworth and Mr Lloyd had donated a hogget for a competition was incorrect, the animal having been given by Mr Lloyd.
Homing Pigeon Club. The Masterton Homing Pigeon- Club’s race from Parnassus (Nelson) was won by Mr lan Mayes’s bird which took 9£hours to cover the journey. This was the only bird home within the time limit. The next race will be from Taumaranui. Girls’ School Closed.
Amberley House Girls’ Collegiate School, which was founded about 22 years ago by a group of North Canterbury farmers to provide private educational facilities for their daughters in country surroundings, has had to close because of the effects of the war. Two Accident Cases.
Two accident cases were admitted to the Masterton Hospital on Saturday. Mr Charles Loader, of High Street, fell off some scaffolding and fractured his left ankle. A boy, Warwick Dugdale, of 107 Essex Street, fell off a fence and cut his head. He was discharged after receiving treatment,
