GIRL GUIDES ANNUAL MEETING OF COMMITTEE (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Girl Guide Committee was held yesterday afternoon, Mrs Arch. Clark occupied the chair in the absence of Miss Card. Apologies for absence were received from Miss Card, Mrs Bloxam and Mrs Algie. A motion of sympathy with Mrs Wakely and Mrs Bloxam, who had recently suffered bereavement, was passed. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—Chairwoman, Miss Card (re-elected); vicechairman, Mrs J. McKenna; secretary and treasurer, Mrs J. W. Fellingham; delegates, Mesdames Cassidy and Elliot (proxy, Mrs Algie). One new member was nominated. The financial position was considered very satisfactory. , The renort in connection with the Girl Guides was read by Mrs M. Taylor and the Brownie report by Mrs M. Williams. Both these officers were congratulated on their successful work during the year. A posy was sent to Miss Card from the committee, accompanied by the wish for her speedy restoration to health. Afternoon tea was supplied by Mrs Fellingham. Personal Items. The funeral of the late Mr Charles William Houghton took place at the Featherston cemetery yesterday afternoon. The services at the house and the graveside were conducted by the Rev J. R. Higgs. The late Mr Houghton had been an employee of the Town Board and Borough Council for 40 years. He was born in Kent and came to Featherston when he was six years old. He had lived here ever since. He was twice married and leaves a widow and family of nine. The sons are: Messrs Harry, Alfred, Charles, Leslie and Harold Houghton, and four daughters. Mesdames M. Boe--son, C. Mellish, R. Bridgewater, and P. Knowles. There are 23 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The Borough Council was officially represented at the funeral. The pallbearers were Messrs Harry and Harold Houghton (sons), J. W. Card (Mayor), M. B. Tait (ex-councillor), G. Farrier (councillor) and W. Boston (councillor). Engagement, The engagement is announced of Jean Winifred, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs T. G. Hardie, Featherston, and Second Lieutenant (N.Z.A.S.C.) Russell Irwin, second youngest son of Mr and Mrs F. O. Wallace, Wanganui. Earthquake. A short sharp earthquake was felt here at 4.13 o’clock this morning. . 0COSY THEATRE "THIS WOMAN IS MINE.” Tonight one of the greatest romantic adventures ever brought to the screen, “This Woman is Mine,” will be shown at the Cosy Theatre. The chief roles are taken by Franchot Tone, John Carroll and Carol Bruce. The associate picture is “Band Trail,” featuring Tim Holt.
