CHIMNEY REPAIRS
TIME FOR PAYMENT WHERE NECESSARY. DIFFICULTIES IN EXTENDING DISCOUNT DATE. There were legal difficulties in the way of alterating the discount day for rates, said the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan this morning, when stating that he had made representations to the authorities with reference to a suggestion, that in view of the expense which ratepayers had to meet on account of repairing earthquake damage, discount day should be extended. Mr Jordan said the position could be met much more easily by allowing time for payment for chimney repairs effected through the borough organisation. Where it was necessary, that course would be followed.
