The increased rates of supplementary pensions which were approved by the British Parliament last month come into force this week, a British Official Wireless message states. More than a million old people who are now receiving supplementary pensions from the assistance board will have their allowances raised by 2s 6d a week, or 5s for a married couple. The total increase will amount to nearly £lO,000,000 a year, and will bring the total of old age pensions to £135,000,000 a year.
