t OUTPUT IN CANADA. REMARKABLE INCREASES SHOWN. ( (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) OTTAWA, August 18. The Munitions Minister, Mr C. D. Howe, announced remarkable progress in Canadian small arms production. In the past three months the output of Bren guns has been almost a third of the total production in the 12 months to June 30 last. The cost of the Bren gun has been, reduced from 390 dollars, in the first quarter of 1941, to 192 dollars this year. For every four No. 4 rifles produced in June, an extra one was produced in July. The present rate is twice that ruling in April. The No. 4 rifle is equipped with, a new short-style bayonet and a simplified back sight. The magazine holds five rounds and fifteen aimed shots can be fired a minute.
