FEATHERSTON
BOROUGH COUNCIL BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Featherston Borough Council there were present, the Mayor, Mr J. W. Card, Councillors S. B. Batcheler, G. A. Farrier, W. J. Boston, E. R. Skipage, B. B. Donald, C. C. Kenward, R. R. P. Hardy and L. G. Hardie.
A deputation consisting of Major Mitchell and Captain Lysctte waited on the council and asked that pictures be allowed to be screened on Sunday nights. The council decided to grant the request for three months providing that after all reasonable expenses had been deducted, the profits io be handed to the local patriotic fund. The Dominion Lighting Controller wrote supplying information in regard to the external lighting that could be granted in areas damaged by the recent earthquakes. It was resolved that the District Controller be written to asking that extra ligthing be granted in terms of the letter.
A complaint in regard to wandering stock was received and the ranger was requested to take action in the matter.
MINIATURE RIFLES COMPETITION SCORES. The following were the scores registered by members of the Featherston Miniature Rifles Club 'in a competition:—K. McKenzie 98, L. Rasmussen 97, A. Viles 96, B. Williams 95, L. Halpin 95, A. Cook 94, Mrs Rasmussen 94, A. McKenzie 94, Mrs Nimmio 92, Mrs Symons 91, D. Feast 88, D. Sim 87, S. Viles 35, A. Habib 85, G. White 84, N. McNamara 85, R. Saunders 79, J. Saba 77, S. Buck 76. J. Simmons 72, A. Marshall 41, H. McKenna 33, Joan Marshall 77. United Wartime Service. There was a large congregation al the united wartime service held last evening. The speaker was Mr John Nicholson, who gave some interesting facts concerning Nigeria. The prayers were taken by the Rev. J. R. Higgs, and the combined choirs led the singing, the accompaniments being played by Miss Collins. After the service Mr Nicholson showed some very interesting and instructive lantern slides in connection with mission work in Nigeria. Soldiers’ Dance. There was a record attendance at the dance' for soldiers held in the Town Hall on Saturday night. The music was supplied by an orchestra and extras were played by a soldier. The M’s.C. were Messrs F. Talbot, F. Anderson and Private Peter Habib. A spot dance was won by Pte. Murray and Miss Davis. The arrangements for the supper were in the hands of the Junior Patriotic Committee. Personal. : Mr and Mrs W. Rutherford, Mr E Harris and Mr B. Hanson, of Pahiatua, were the guests of Mr and Mrs FWhite during the weekend. Go if. The fourth round of the Challenge Shield competition was played during the weekend, H. Lovegrove being first, L. G. Benton second, and H. McCarthy third. COSY THEATRE “DR. KILDARE’S CRISIS.” On Wednesday night another of the noted Kildare series of pictures, “Dr. Kildare’s Crisis,” will be shown. It. is an excellent drama with comedy intermixed. The leading roles are taken by Lew Ayres, Lionel Barrymore, Robert Young and Laraine Day.
