SECRET SESSION
PARLIAMENT TO RESUME ON TUESDAY IN ORDER TO DISCUSS WAR SITUATION. EXPECTATION OF SHORT SITTING. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. An announcement that Parliament would reassemble at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday lor the resumption of the session was made lasi night by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, This is a month earlier than had been expected, an adjournment having been taken to September 16 when the House of Representatives concluded its business on July 10. The adjournment, however, was subject to the usual stipulation that Parliament, would resume sooner if that were necessary. Though the Prime Minister was unable last night to give any information as to the likely duration of the session, it is not expected to last very long. A secret session will be held to enable members to hear and discuss the latest developments in connection with the war situation generally and the country’s war effort, and if it meets the convenience of members this will probably be held on Tuesday night. The Supplemental’.'/ Estimates of departmental expenditure have yet to be presented and approved, and these will be dealt with during the session if they .are available. The Fair Rents Amendment Act, which extends the duration of the principal Act, is clue to expire at the encl of October, and it is probable that the legislation will include an amending Bill providing for a further extension.
