OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS
RESTORATION OF LIGHTING (To the Editor.) Sir, —Last month we read with pleasure that the inland towns were to have 80 per cent of their lighting restored. Masterton’s black-out was worse than Wellington’s. It is rumoured that as ratepayers we are still paying full rates for the electricity that is hiding coyly under various bushels. Was the paper in error in its statement or do we have to wait the whim of the local controller? Good lighting is an economic necessity to many businesses. —I am, etc., H. D. REID. Masterton, August 15. The District Lighting Controller, Mr George Brown, in reply to the above letter, stated that he was in communication with the Dominion Lighting Controller this week regarding the position. Mr Brown said he was informed that the new regulations would be gazetted within a fortnight. Until these were gazetted no action could be taken.
