CARTERTON SALE. DEMAND FOR FAT SHEEP. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. Ltd , report as follows on their Carterton sale yesterday:—There was a big yarding of dairy cattle and a small entry of sheep and pigs. Fat sheep sold particularly well, a line ot prime wethers making 37s 9d. Fat hoggets also sold well. The fat cattle market was very firm. Dairy cattle met with a very restricted demand, only choice heifers and cows just on drop meeting with competition. Late calvers were hard to quit at any price, utoie cattle made late rates. Pigs sold at very good values. The following were the prices obtained: ... +„ Sheep: Fat wethers, to 37s 9d; fat ewes, to 25s lOd; fat hoggets, 21s lOd, 22s 6d to 245; store ewes, to 14s; small w. hoggets, to 15s 3d; cull ewes r.w. S.D. ram, 10s 6d to 14s 3d. Pigs: Porkers, £2 14s io £2 15s; store pigs, to £2 3s; weaners, 275, 31s, 345, 355, 35s 6d, 37s to 395; weaners (small), 22s to 245. Cattle: Jersey cows just calved and guaranteed sound, £7 7s to £10; Jersey cows on drop, £6 10s, £7, £7 10s; £7 15s, £8 5s to £8 10s; 3yr Jersey heifers on drop, £7 ss. £7 10s, £B, £9, to £10; 2yr Jersey heifers on drop, £6 10s, £7, £7 IQs, £7 *ss ,0 £8 ss; springing heifers, £j to £6 2s bd, springing cows, £3 10s, £5 to £6; Ayrshire heifers on drop, to £9 ss; fat cows, £sl6s, £6 ss, £7 7s, £7 10s to £7 16s; fat heifeis, £6 to £8 10s; forward cows, £4 ss, £4 las, £5 to £5 Is; store cows, £2 17s, £3 10s, £3 15s to £4; cull cows, 15s, £2 to £2 10s: cows and calves, £2, £3 16s to £6; bulls, to £2 10s; empty heifers, to- £2 14s; Jersey steers, to £4 2s 6<l; P.A. steers, to £8 ,10s.
