GREYTOWN

PATRIOTIC AFFAIRS CITIZENS’ COMMITTEE MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At a meeting of the (Sreytcwn Citizens’ Patriotic Committee, Mr A. W. Horton presided. The secretary, Miss Duff, reported that numerous letters had been received from soldiers overseas expressing appreciation for parcels received. The chairman stated that it was pleasing to receive word that the parcels were reaching their destination. It was reported that the receipts for the Paddy’s Market were £340 11s id, and the net profit was expected to be £329.13s 9d. Mr R. O’Neale proposed that a small committee be set up to consider ways and means of raising the balance of the district’s quota in connection witli the patriotic appeal. The opinion was expressed that there were some residents who had not made any contribution to this appeal, and it was eventually decided that these be interviewed by a committee consisting of Messrs A. W. Horton, R. O’Neale, J. F. Thompson, S. Shcdden and Miss Duff. The soldiers’ dance committee is to be asked to hold a benefit dance on August 21. The proceeds are to be handed to Mr and Mrs Manihera, who lost everything in the fire after the earthquake. A vote of thanks was passed to all who had assisted at the Paddy’s Market. The question of Sunday pictures for soldiers was discussed and the committee expressed the opinion that this matter should be given favourable consideration. School Bus Service. The chairman of the E.P.S., Mr A. W. Horton, has notified the School Committee that the Transport Controller for the Wairarapa had inform-' ed him that the usual school bus service would be available to convey the children to their homes in an emergency, and that due to the present tire and petrol shortage it was not desirable to have a trial using private cars. TOWN HALL “CALL A COP.” The programme tonight will be headed by one of the best comedies ever brought to the screen, “Call a Cop,” in which George Fonnby is seen at his best. _____
