NO TOWN CLOCK
RESIDENTS AT A LOSS. PROSPECTS OF ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION. Now that the Masterton Post Office tower has been demolished, residents realise more and more how dependent they were on the clock to tell the time of day. It is a common experience to be stopped in the street and to be asked the time. Many people still glance upwards towards the Post Office, momentarily forgetting that the tower and clock have gone. It was thought that there might be some possibility of reinstating two dials of the clock in the wooden framework now built over the main Post Office ..entrance,,.but the Borough Engineer states that the structure would not be strong, enough to carry the meqhanism. Mr Mabson said he was making preliminary inquiries as to the possibilities of installing an electrically-controlled clock. This largely depended on whether a suitable motor could be obtained. Some years ago he had reported on a scheme to install a master clock in the Municipal Buildings, linked with a series of other clocks in various parts of the town, but nothing came of the proposal.
