MAURICEVILLE

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

COMPETITION WINNERS.

(“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Mauriceville Women’s Institute was held at the residence of Mrs J. A. Baine, there being a large attendance. The president, Miss Ruth Mortensen, who presided, welcomed Mesdames T. Avery and A. Cain as new members. Mrs G. Wilson gave an interesting address on “School of Procedure.”

Mrs Baine reported that a number of parcels had been forwarded to local soldiers overseas.

Flour bags for use in connection with soldiers’ parcels would be appreciated and it is requested that members prepared to donate the same should bring them to the meeting in September. The offer of a far north institute to replenish stocks of jams, preserves, etc., lost in the recent earthquake, was greatly appreciated. A donation was made by Mrs Spackman. The competitions resulted as follows:—Cake: Joan McWhirter; framed picture, Barry Godden; plain scones. Mrs G. Wilson 1, Mrs Lehmstedt and Miss R. Mortensen. 2; best bloom, Mrs G. Neilsen 1, Mrs Wilson 2, Miss R. Mortensen 3. A quantity of navy blue wool was distributed to members to make into comforts for the Mercantile Marine. Personal. Mr and Mrs J. Roberts, of Dannevirke, have taken up their residence here, Mr Roberts having been appointed to the staff of the Mauriceville Dairy Factory.
