EKETAHUNA

ST. CUTHBERT’S CHURCH NEW VICAR APPOINTED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Bishop of Wellington, the Rt. Rev. H. St. Barbe Holland, has notified the vestry of St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church, of the appointment of the Rev. J. C. W. Mutter, of Opunake, as Vicar of Eketahuna, in succession to the late Rev. G. E. Williams. Mr Mutter will take up his duties at Eketahuna in September. KILLED IN ACCIDENT PILOT OFFICER TWENTYMAN. News was recently received in Eketahuna that Pilot Officer Wilson Twentyman, second son of Mr and Mrs W. O. Twentyman. of Hukanui, had been killed in an aircraft accident. Pilot Officer Twentyman was educated at the Hukanui School and the Eketahuna District High School, passing the matriculation examination at the latter school. He later joined the staff of the Eketahuna County Council, and left there to join the Air 1 orce. He was a well-known footballer, and captained the Hukanui senior team. For some years he was a Bush senior representative footballer, and had been captain of the team. He received his “wings” in Canada and was in the air service in England at the time of his death.

A memorial service was held in the Hukanui Hall and was conducted by the Rev. J. H. Combes, of Pahiatua, there being a large attendance of district settlers as well as friends from Eketahuna and Pahiatua. The local Home Guard was in attendance.
