BURGLARS ACTIVE

OPERATIONS IN MASTERTON. THEFT OF £65 IN CASH. Burglars have been active in Masterton recently. In addition to the theft of about £26 in cash from Tozer’s Fish Mart, reported on July 17, thefts have also taken place in two other business premises. During the weekend it appears that an entry was gained into Messrs C. Smith, Ltd’s, building. At first it was thought that nothing had been taken, but it is now believed that a small quantity of clothing was stolen. A sum of £65 in cash was stolen recently from the premises of Mr H. B. Thomas, butcher, Queen Street. In this instance entry was probably gained by opening the back door. Evidently, the key of the strongroom was found and by this means it was opened, the strongroom being relocked and the key replaced. A cashbox was also opened. Several cheques and a wristlet watch were not taken. Police inquiries are being made into all three cases.
